Use the News! An Introduction to the New York Times API // TECH 668
Zoe Fraade-Blanar, Interactive Technology Consultant, The New York Times
Monday, August 29th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Vast! Powerful! A little confusing! All of these
describe the New York Times data services, the amazing collection of
more than a dozen API’s granting direct, real-time access to a huge
assortment of information. Including every article the Times has
written for the last 30 years, this service can be the backbone of
projects ranging from a simple research paper to the most complex
journalism startup.
In this course we’ll break down the fundamentals
of pulling information using the Times API using a variety of
techniques stretching from simple to code-heavy (with PHP). Whether
you’re a raw beginner trying to figure out what this API thing is, or
a master coder looking to brush up on your skills, you’ll leave this
class with a full journalism-hacking toolbelt
